Protests erupted in Batengoo village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after the Army allegedly thrashed a local truck driver on Saturday.
Scores of truck drivers and residents including women and children blocked the Srinagar-Anantnag road and raised slogans against the Army.
They alleged that a trucker, Yawar Ahmad Malik of Melhoora Sangam was beaten up by Army men without any provocation.
“They (Army) were driving on the wrong side, I did not even utter a word. They stopped their vehicles, dragged me out of the truck and started thrashing me till some locals rescued me,” Malik claimed.
A police official said the incident is being investigated.
