Scores of casual labourers of Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Friday, staged protests in Srinagar demanding the release of their pending wages.
Reports said that hundreds of PHE casual labourers accompanied by their children staged a protest demonstration at Srinagar’s Pratap Park demanding release of their pending salaries.
The employees were protesting under the banner of Kashmir PHE Employees Association led by its president Sajad Ahmed Parray.
“We are suffering, our children and families are starving as our salaries have not been released for the past 22 months,” said Parray.
He warned that the employees will intensify their protests if their demands are not met.
“We are on the verge of starvation. We can’t even pay the school fee of our children,” the protesters lameted.
“The children of the protesting employees who had arrived at the protesting site with their school bags waved placards appealing authorities to release the pending wages. They said their parents are unable to meet the expenses incurred on their education,” news agency CNS reported.
