The body of a missing cab driver missing from home in since the past two weeks in Pattan, was found in a stream in Mirgund area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.
According to reports, a police team recovered the body after it was found floating in the stream by local residents in Chenibal area.
The deceased, identified as Jan Mohd Bhat (34) son of Asadullah Bhat of Mamoosa Pattan, was missing since March 22.
Police sources suspect that Bhat may been murdered.
Srinagar-based news agency GNS quoting a senior police official said that the body had visible marks of assault on the neck, head and face.
“We are awaiting FSL and medical report to come to ascertain the actual cause of death”, the official said.
“A case under section 302 has been registered in police station Pattan and further investigations have been taken,” the officer added.
Family of the deceased had staged a protest demonstration in Srinagar last week and urged the Governor’s administration to help trace their missing kin.
According to the family, Jan Muhammad, who was working as a driver with a telecommunication company, had left home on March 22 to attend a court hearing in a civil case but didn’t return.
