As part of separatist-called “Human Rights Week”, Beopar Mandal Mahraj Gunj Srinagar’, an influential Kashmir traders’ body, Wednesday, staged a protest rally to denounce alleged rights abuses in the valley.
Holding placards and shouting pro-freedom slogans, hundreds of traders took part in the rally and staged a sit-in protest against rights violations.
Speakers on the occasion said that the state has waged a war against the people of Kashmir, under which the youth were being targeted mercilessly.
They said human rights violations in Kashmir were at its peak with unabated killing day in and day out and use of pellets.
They appealed to the world community to raise their voice against the “ongoing killings of Kashmiris, using of deadly pellets, arresting of innocent youths and harassment of people under the garb of cordon-and-search-operations.”
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, have urged people to observe the week from December 3.
They have asked people to hold peaceful protests and candlelight vigils after evening prayers to highlight alleged human rights violations in Kashmir.
