The Anjuman-e-Shari Shian, Monday, refuted news reports about the arrest of its chairman Aga Syed Hassan Mousvi.
Aga Syed Hassan Mousvi, a noted Shia cleric and senior separatist leader of the Geelani-led Hurriyat faction, was briefly detained by the Jammu and Kashmir police after he landed at the Srinagar Airport from Delhi with the cash of Rs 14.38 lakh. It is suspected to be unaccounted and has been seized in view of the election season, officials said yesterday.
However, terming the reports as baseless, a spokesman of valley’s largest Shia body Anjuman-e-Shari-Shian said that proper documents were handed over to Income Tax Department about the seized cash.
“It is unfortunate that a news about the arrest of a political and religious head was published without taking the version of any responsible member of the organization,” he said.
Aga Hassan clarified that the cash seized by Income Tax Department doesn’t belong to the Shia leader himself but was provided by Willayat Foundation for Jamia Babul Ilm to clear the dues of religious heads and members of religious organization.
“The matter was resolved after Income Tax Department was provided proper and legal documents,” he said.
