Bovine smuggling bids foiled, 4 held in Jammu

The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday foiled five attempts of bovine smuggling and arrested four suspected smugglers while rescuing 91 animals in Ramban and Samba districts.

Four Kashmir-bound trucks, loaded with 79 bovines, were intercepted at Nashri and Karol in Ramban district along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, a police spokesperson said.

He said four drivers, two each hailing from Kashmir and Jammu regions, were arrested and their vehicles seized for trying to transport the animals to the valley without seeking permission from the concerned authorities.

Another truck, carrying 12 bovine animals, was seized near Tapyal in Samba district along theJammu-Pathankot highway, the spokesperson said, adding that the vehicle was coming from Kathua towards Jammu.

However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape and efforts are on to nab him, he said.
