Three drug peddlers were arrested along with contraband drugs in separate incidents in Ganderbal and Srinagar districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
A spokesman said police arrested two drug peddlers in Hazratbal area of Srinagar city
“Police Station Nigeen had laid a checkpoint (Naka) near NIT Srinagar where two persons were intercepted. During checking, 80 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from their possession. The drug peddlers were identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar son of Gh Hasan Dar resident of Malabagh and Rayees Ahmad Hakak @Bangola son of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Gulab Bagh Both drug peddlers were arrested and contraband substance seized,” he said, adding that a case was registered in Police Station Nigeen under relevant sections of law and investigation taken up.
In another incident, a drug peddler was nabbed with 60 bottles of contraband prescription medicine codeine phosphate in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The spokesman said that police laid a checkpoint (Naka) near forest hut Behama Ganderbal and intercepted the suspect identified as Shamsudin Lone @Saeba son of Mehrajudin Lone resident of Duderhama.
“During checking, 60 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. The drug peddler was arrested and contraband substance seized.”
In related news, two gamblers were arrested after police raided a gambling den in Lal Bazar area of the city here.
“A police party of Police Station Lal Bazar arrested two gamblers namely Jahangir Ahmad Khan son of Gh Mohammad Khan resident of New Colony and Bashir Ahmad Pandith son of Mohd Yousuf Pandith resident of Pandith Bagh Lal Bazar,” the spokesman informed, adding that stake money of Rs 4,940 and playing cards were also seized from the gambling site.
“In this regard, a case FIR No 74/2018 under section 13 Gambling Act was registered and investigation taken up.”
