Three drug peddlers were arrested along with contraband substances in separate incidents in Anantnag and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
“At a naka check point at Sangam chowk in Anantnag, a police party while carrying out the searches intercepted a suspect and from his possession recovered huge quantity of codeine phosphate,” said a police spokesman.
He said the accused was identified as Amir Ali Chopan son of Ali Mohammad Chopan, a resident of Rajpora in nearby Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, two drug peddlers were arrested in nearby Pulwama district along with 5.5 kilograms of compressed cannabis leaves and 05 kilograms of Poppy straw, he said.
“The suspects were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar and Ghulam Mohammad Mir son of Mohammad Ramzan Mir, both residents of Achan Pulwama,” the spokesman said.
Police has registered a case in both these incidents and further investigation is going on, he added.
