Six persons were arrested for gambling offences in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday, police said.
“The persons arrested for gambling offences were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Munshi son of Ghulam Ahmad Munshi resident of Ganai Mohalla Soura, Mehraj-ud-din Dar son of Gulzar Ahmad Dar resident of Shah Pora Badrakund, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh resident of Khalil Colony Soura, Mehraj-ud-din Baba son of Ghulam Ahmad Baba resident of Nowhatta, Arshed Ahmad Pandit son of Ghulam Rasool Pandit resident of Ganai Mohalla Soura and Mohammad Yaseen Najar son of Abdul Salam Najar resident of Soura,” said a spokesman.
He said that officers from the local police unit while making the arrests have also seized playing cards and stake money of ₹ 51795 from the gamblers.
“A case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Ganderbal,” he said, adding that police has resolved to deal firmly with anti-social elements.
“Continuous police action against the gamblers in Ganderbal should encourage the community members to come forward with any information pertaining to social crimes in their neighbourhood We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue.”
